Printing Banners - continuous feed??
My HT has asked me to look into continuous paper feed printers, specifically for banner printing. He sees the LSO staff cutting A4 sheers to create banners from publisher etc and sees it as a waste of their time.Anyone using a continuous feed printer where they are?

Dot matrix printers and 'tractor feed' continuous paper are endangered species these days.The only real options you have is specialised inkjet printer with a continuous roll of paper on a spindle. For example the HP Scitex and DesignJet ranges has a number of printers that do this:

HP Designjet L25500 42-in Printer (CH955A) specifications - HP Small & Medium Business products
You might find it cheaper to use an outside company that specialises in printing banners.

You need what is now called a 'plotter' or 'large format printer'Plotters - Hardware at Insight UK
There are a lot of them, the 2 that Geoff have linked are probably a little bit overkill (as the first is over 2 tonnes of equipment
)
I'd look at something like the HP DesignJet 110 Plus 24".

When we need big stuff done we have sent it to our local graphic design place who has a 70" wide one. Good value for money on it and cheaper than you buying and owning your own.

Also, if the staff are literally "cutting" consider a guillotine.

We have a Cannon iPF8100, which will print up to 1040mm wide and 6000mm long. The printer itself wasn't shockingly expensive and it is capable of exceptionally good quality prints. However, prepare yourself for a shock when you need ink. Filling up all 12 slots with the large capacity 700ml tanks will cost a cool couple of grand.

We know a sign writer that can print in full colour on 1.something meter wide vinyl so it can even be stuck to stuff if required which is a good option.
When we need big stuff done we have sent it to our local graphic design place who has a 70" wide one. Good value for money on it and cheaper than you buying and owning your own.

we use the HP 44inch wide carriage roll printer here and whilst the quality is excellent, it is an absolute bugger to run as it needs constant attention to keep it running. it is also really quite expensive! If you don't need to produce things on a daily basis it is almost certainly cheaper to send out to a external bureau.

Depending how big a banner you want to print you may be able to print on a photocopier, some of them can do banner printing, ours does upto 297mmx1200mm. it does fine for displays and big posters.
